* Glucuronidation of the flavonolignan constituents of silymarin was examined.
* Human hepatocytes, hepatic microsomes and recombinant UGT enzymes were used.
* The parent compounds and their metabolites were analyzed by a UHPLC-MS method.
* Each of the tested flavonolignans was metabolized in vitro by multiple UGTs.
* UGT1A1 and UGT1A9 primarily metabolized the flavonolignans in silymarin.
