GABAA receptor function and pharmacology in epilepsy and status epilepticus. Jones-Davis, Dorothy M *; Macdonald, Robert L + [Article] Current Opinion in Pharmacology. 3(1):12-18, February 2003.

: GABAA ([gamma]-n-aminobutyric acid) receptor dysfunction has long been implicated in the development of epilepsy and status epilepticus. Recent advances have been made in understanding the cellular, pharmacological and genetic involvement of GABAA receptors in seizure disorders. In particular, genetic mutations found in GABAA receptor subunits strongly implicate the GABAA receptor in idiopathic generalised epilepsies.
