colon; Henoch-Schonlein purpura should be considered in children with severe abdominal pain that is unresponsive to conventional treatment when no apparent cause is found on investigation. Such children may respond dramatically to a trial of intravenous corticosteroid and, hence, may avoid unnecessary investigations and laparotomy.
