We review five different systematic studies evaluating outcome elements of the TEACCH Program. These include (1) the effect of program structure, (2) home observation of child behaviors before and after treatment, (3) behavioral ratings of parent's teaching effectiveness before and after treatment, (4) parents' and therapists' perceptions of treatment outcome, and (5) long-range outcome as measured by rate of institutionalization. The series of outcome studies reviewed here offers a cumulative body of outcome evidence for treatment effectiveness that any single research effort could not offer. Multiple studies are recommended for others seeking treatment outcome information.
